New Microlab, Who Dis?

The new MicroLab made its debut on the
DEF CON 2024 main stage.

Exciting news from Las Vegas: the MicroLab v0.6 is out!

What’s Old is New Again!

The MicroLab is our open-source DIY controlled lab reactor made from 3d-printed and off-the-shelf parts. It enables anyone with a few hundred dollars to build a device that allows them to make medicine in their own home. This bypasses bureaucracies and can reduce costs (by orders of magnitude in some cases). Most importantly, it puts power back in the hands of people to manage their own health instead of “following orders” from a callous bureaucracy.

What’s in v0.6

The new version builds on the previous iteration and offers a variety of technical and user improvements, including:

  • Fully-redesigned 3d printable parts: cases, stands, manifolds, and more!
  • Simplified, clarified, picture-filled documentation to get you started with minimal fussing and fiddling.
  • UX improvements including audio prompts, exposed back-end controls in the GUI, support for hardware add-ons, and dark mode.
  • Updated and improved Recipe Press application that lets you easily create and edit MicroLab instructions.

Science, Technology, Empathy, and Medicine

Now that we’re approaching feature parity with commercial reactors, we’ve asked the chemistry team to bang on the tools a little harder. They’ve offered both praise and feedback, some of which has already been incorporated into this new release. With the basics effectively under wraps, we’re making plans for what comes next; keep an eye out for upcoming features like atmospheric control, next-level heat and chemical resistance, as well as improvements to our upstream research and reaction planning tools.
